In late July the wife and i are flying over to San Francisco to visit our son(he married an American girl) So we are taking the opportunity to visit New Orleans for a few days and then do a drive up from N/O to Memphis(via Natchez) which means that there will time to stop over in Clarksdale for 2 nights.Trouble is it will be a Monday and Tuesday night. Question is,do you think there will there be any live music on those nights?Any recommendations about where to stay in Clarksdale.? TIA Rick

Stay at "Shack up Inn" a converted Cotton Gin and Sharecropper shacks as motel rooms. Music right next door at Hopsons Commissary on Monday night. Info on weekly music and venues here https://www.cathead.biz/

Look up Cat Head blues store and Roger Stolle. He usually has a calendar going week to week. Really nice guy and informative about Cdale. ----------

Hey Indigo - a trip that includes SF, NO and Clarksdale will give ya a very comprehensive view of 21st century America. SF with its charm, wealth & traffic jams will remind you of Auckland. NO Is a dichotomy of great food & music juxtaposed against the formerly wonderful Bourbon Street which is now Phuket-esque after Katrina. And while you'll enjoy the daytime vibe & Deak's shop & a few fun clubs in Clarksdale, you really ought to drive around the town a bit - in the daylight. You'll see poverty on a scale most folks don't want to know about.
But while you're there you can also take short trip to Tutwiler and see - the train platform from which WC Handy made his famous quote about the blues - the funeral home where Emit Till's body was taken after it was dredged out of the Mississippi. - and Sonny Boy II's headstone.
Travel safe.

You have to stop in and see Deak Harp. He has shop at 13 Third St. Great guy ! Check out the "Bluesberry Cafe" and look up Billy Howell and the Delta Bohemian Tour. Great way to learn - and see the history and the landscape of the Mississippi Delta. ----------
