After the new year I started getting responses to all of the job applications I have been putting out. One asked for a "digital interview" in which I set up a camera and a mike, was asked questions via text on my computer, given a minute and a half to record an answer, now cuts, edits or retakes, and my recorded answers wet off to the potential employer without review by me. Nearly as nerve-wracking as an in person interview. Haven't heard back yet.
While I had the camera and mic set up, I recorded this little improvisation in one take with no cuts. I did get to review it before posting it and I found something strange. The video and audio were out of sync. I suspected this was due to latency in my M-Track audio microphone box, but when I shifted the audio to be in sync at the beginning, it was out of sync at the end. The audio and video were recorded at the same time on the same machine using Adobe Premier Elements. The interview web site let me do a few practice questions before starting the actual recorded interview and I was able to review those and they were not out of sync. The interview did not use Premier in the recording loop, so I suspect that, or...Is it possible that a harmonica can not only bend pitch, but time?
I would appreciate and technical advice on what may have happened here from those of you familiar with recording using a computer.
It most likely has to do with your youtube uploading process. If you look at you file before uploading- was that out of synch? My guess is it was fine.
Look on youtube for uploading format suggestions. They reprocess your upload before it's viewable and that sometimes causes this kind of sync glitch. The good news. - without singing, no one but you (and perhaps a few of us harp players) can tell.
I just did one of those digital interviews..what a nightmare...do we now have to have a Diploma in acting to get a job? Not everybody is comfortable in front of a camera. Then 3 online tests and i still haven't spoken to (or seen)an actual Human. And all this is for a fairly low level(part time) Government job. Good luck with the job and the syncing.
Chris_L, I like your idea. I can see a rewrite of the twin paradox!
indigo, I hear you. Having no feedback as you are answering the questions is tough.
I enrolled my boys in some acting classes when they were younger just because I thought it would help them with confidence in general. It may have been a better idea than I thought.
