Seeing I am being laid off from my company, I had to cash in my rewards points or loose them. I looked at the catalog and found I could get a MXL-V67G large capsule condenser microphone with what I had. It just got here today and I tried it out through my M-audio M-track into my PC using audacity. It does make a difference over the SM57 I normally use. It requires a more quiet environment than I have. The gong like sounds are someone turning on the shower elsewhere in the house. With the extreme reverb I added, it almost sounds intentional. It is Bach so I thought the cathedral reverb appropriate.

Jesu Joy

and another Bach while I had the equipment out.

That Sheep May Safely Graze

I am just playing around with this. Does anyone have a good suggestion on resources to learn a bit better how to use such equipment?

With that reverb you could convince me that I am listening to a bowed psaltery, especially on "SheepMaySafelyGraze".

A good mic to record is a great tool. Sounds great!

A few weeks ago I bought a Samson VR88 ribbon. Awesome sound! as you said, it requieres a quiet place, but that ribbon sound is lovely.

Enjoy your new toy!!
