Hello MBH'ers,

My band, Harmonica Bill & Marked Deck, was the "headlining" act at Long Island's Blues On The Bay festival. Here's a clip of our set. Hope you like it, I'd love to hear what you think!

Thanks

That's pretty cool cliffy.

I remember a while back when you were hesitant to approach a guitar player you wanted to jam with. Your successful outcome flies in the face of all those, including me, who poo-pooed the idea. In fact, I was surprised that you didn't post to the recent thread of dread on the subject. One size does not fit all.

Good for you!

You get a great sound! Would you mind letting us know what you are using?

I really enjoyed that. What a great sound, and very classy handling of multiple power cuts!

I've heard people say they tire of the amped harmonica sound, but this is why I took it up. I can't really do it myself, but very happy to hear others do it.

(I liked the whole package, not just the harmonica btw).

Sounds great! . Maybe a touch less volume on the harp mix, the band sounds real good too.

@ Mensh: My rig was a little crazy for this gig because I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to mic my small amp. So instead I went huge!

mic: Rion shell with white-label CR element
into: Kinder AFB+, then split using an A/B/Y box which went into two amps.

amp 1: Fender Bassman RI that I sent to Kendrick and had them gut it, installing their "Texas Crude" harp amp circuit in it. This amp sounds amazing at ear-splitting volumes, so I installed Kendrick's "Decrescendo" attentuator in between the amp and the speaker. I did this hoping that would make my amp the one amp that worked perfectly for high volume and low volume gigs. But the attentuator sucks too much treble and the amp doesn't "cut". For this gig, I had the attentuator turned off. I lacquered the tweed on this amp many years back and it looks awesome.

amp 2: Weber kit 5F2H 1x12" harp amp -- this used to be Rick Davis's amp before he started testing amps with Mission, and way before he developed the Memphis Mini. This amp is actually my favorite amp in the world. I can get it to sound good at almost any volume, and it only has two knobs (volume and tone) for simplicity. Mine has a 12" speaker, but I think it normally comes with a 10". It had really awful snakeskin tolex on it, which I tore off but now I can't get all the adhesive goo off of it, even using solvents, etc. So the amp is getting covered with dust and dog hair.

The festival was running late, so we were in a big rush to set up. I just dialed it in as good as I could in three minutes and let it rip.

@ Chaz: You are biased because you are my jamming buddy! :)

@ JustFuya: Thanks for remembering my dilemma! :) Actually, these guys weren't the guitarist I was referring to in my previous "Am I stalking this guitarist?" post.

That guy is Rob Europe. Here is a clip of us competing in the Long Island Blues Society's IBC challenge --

The set in the clip is all his original songs. I posted it on here before... some folks loved it, some thought it was only so-so.
