It may be a little off topic because it doesn't deal with diatonics but what kind of mic would you guys recommend for chromatic playing. I'm currently dabbling in the cx-12 black line of harps because I like the different keys I can get with it.

what sound are you after? bill barret plays the chromatic almost exclusively, at one time he was using a shure 585

toots a shure 58. most of the blues cats prefer a crystal mic. as it works quite well with a big 64 chromatic.

Before Toots passed (RIP) - his last mic of choice was an Ultimate 58.

My favorite in the studio is an AKG c414. Cost new over $1000 used around $800. Live I use a flat response AKG d500.
