Here's a lesson on a subject that I've never touched on before. This is the sort of amped-up rhythm harp that I use in "I'm Tore Down."

I'm using my new MXR Carbon Copy analog delay pedal here. I used on a couple of gigs over the weekend. I'm sold!

I'm always blown away by the gigantic sound you get out of the high harps. For some reason I just cannot get comfortable on high harps (D and above) - I get a weedy sound and find them difficult to bend accurately. No problem with lower keys. Great lesson!

Why do you call it a box pattern?

It's a term used by blues guitarists. It refers to a way of thinking about the blues scale and how to move through it.

box pattern blues

Here's the sort of thing I was thinking about:

This is a super useful progression that I now know I was getting slightly wrong. This is great, thanks

wouldn't that be considered a reverse box?

Linda Lou?
That is cool anyway, the shift from the root to playing splits for the rest of the pattern is actually easier than playing the single note in 4 draw.
Oddly enough I find that using the 3 blow for the 5th of the IV flows a little easier for me.
I'll get a solo version of checkin up on my baby from it.

Great lesson Adam.

As a bass player (sort of) I've used the term box shuffle for this. It makes sense because the pattern makes a little box on the fret board.

Sometimes I've hear it referred to as "uptown box" or "downtown box" depending on which way its played.

In scale degrees...

Uptown: 1 - 5 - b7 - 8

Downtown: 1 - 8 - b7 5

Uptown box and downtown box. That's great. I've never heard that, but that's what I'm working with here. Thanks.

Magic lesson. I can't thank you guys enough for sharing all this gold.
There are very few top harp players in my part of the world to get access to this kind of stuff.
Cheers John
