inspired by the Lucky 13, i decided to build up a harp around some solist pro 12 plates i had in the drawer. today my comb, covers and hardware arrived from Germany, so i put it together. i was aware the plates were Lo C in easy 3rd tuning, which doesnt really gel with my reason for wanting a long low C harp, but i thought i'd take the opportunity to give it a try anyway. i think i have enough spare reeds to put it into standard richter when i want to.
anyway, the plates play fine. they were discarded but they appear to be new, in tune and sound. so now i'm looking for a good way into using easy 3rd. does anyone have some tips or can point me at a good exercise? thank you
SuperBee, I'm on a life mission to extract as much of the goodness of the venerable Richter layout I can so I eschew alternate tunings.
But I know several people who I respect that dig the Easy Third tuning, including Greg Jones of 16:23 Harmonicas (and the US Seydel repair tech) and one of my personal harmonica heroes (and mentor), Paul Davies.
Here's a page Greg wrote about it talking about 3rd position on an Easy Third harp:
