Hohner has a new chromatic out, called the ACE 48. Is anyone familiar with this harp? How does it play and what does it cost? Where can I get one?
Thanks, Paul N.

There was another thread on this subject a couple of days ago. All questions will be answered at S.P.A.H. next week when Hohner introduces it. Or, so I was led to believe.
My preliminary impression is it's a $700 harp with owner adjustable comb chamber inserts.

At $700.00+, Hohner is shooting themselves in the foot. I can justify a $300.00 price range, but that price is out of most people's budgets.

the new hohner looks like the SCX48 i just bought from Rocking Ron's for 165$. I don't want to hijack the thread, but its the best OOTB harmonica I have ever played. I own a 270 Deluxe and a Super64X, I love their tone and sound, but the playability of the SCX is just tremendous, air tight and no leakiness. The tone though, is not like a Hohner but that is not a horrible thing.

Hohner has a few other chromatic models that are actually FAR more expensive than this one is. The two off the top of my head are the Amadeous, which goes for about $1000 a pop and the Silver Concerto, which goes for about somewhere in the $2000-3000 range and those are primarily aimed at classical music oriented players.
I haven't had a chance to try one but I like the idea of being able to self adjust the slide spring and chromatics that have the cross tuned setup like what you see on Hohner's 4 octave chromatics being made for the last 35 years or most of the Suzuki line, the slide throw has a tendency to be very long and slow, which has always annoyed the living crap out of me for years. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

On Friday the 12th of August at SPAH, we were treated to some amazing music from Johnny Sansone on this amazing new chromatic from Hohner! He hit it very hard and very soft with a lot of melodies in between & that new harp did justice to his playing & never got in the way. He left the stage & walked throughout the audience with it, playing acoustically, & we heard every note in a room filled with 100's of people. What a treat to hear him playing for us with it!
