Man that really lays it out there doesnt it.
But by what that says, buying music still doesnt help most of them. Alot of them don't get a cut from any of it. Especially the studio and tour musicians. Thats just wrong. If i was a part of a hit song and didn't get anything ..... man that's just not right.
I buy Tons of music. Having said that, i also use spotify ALOT. But the way i use it is more like a preview service. I can listen to full albums of an artist before i buy it. If i listen to an album twice, i buy it.
Spotify actually makes me buy MORE music because I know im never getting a 'Dud'. Sucks spending hard earned money on a crap album. I know im in the slim minority on this one, but still. If it werent for spotify people would probably just download illegally. You have to get it across to the people what "free music" really costs. ----------

This seems more a story about bad, or no, retirement planning and the All-American health care crisis, than the effects of the changing music industry business model. In that story, musician could be changed to plumber, mechanic, construction worker, waitress, bartender.., the list goes on. Anybody and everybody who lives paycheck to paycheck, for whatever reason, has this same situation on their horizon.
You might even say the famous, and semi-famous, musicians are the lucky ones.

No doubt, Thievin'. Musicians aren't in entirely unique circumstances. And they've "picked their poison", so to speak. The economy hasn't been good to any of those on your list. To me, tho, the financial structure of the music business seems a bit too skewed against the musician. I wonder if and when it might swing back into some sort of balance. ---------Phil Pennington

We may never get rich here but we sell cd's face to face. Do it for love and forget the promoters, agents, and thieves. ---------- Reverbnation
