I would like more people to be aware of Jose. He tours with Woody Russell and runs a blues jam in Austin. He plays diatonic with 7 draw lowered 1 half step. He plays bebop tuning chromatic with the valves taken off on holes 5 and higher. He uses many guitar pedal effects. He can play a wide style of music and does not sound a thing like standard blues harp playing.
I stumbled across him when I tuned into The Bugleboy's webcast. Had I known, I would have been there.
The Bugleboy is about a 550 mi. round trip for me, so I don't get down there too often. They host a program called Soldier Songs & Voices for vets exclusively and guest song writers come in and give a lesson. I go down there for that sometimes and I think I'll see Kellie Mickwee there later in July.
I recommend the place , if your in the neighborhood. It's a good room.
Here is a video from last January of The Woody Russell Trio performing, Jose Ruiz on harmonica. He plays both diatonic and chromatic on his extended solo (beginning at around the 4:40 mark), and uses effects, all very typical of his style, which is unique.
