Well i typed "impedance transformer"into the Forum search engine but after an hours (interesting) reading i didn't find an answer. As an aside when you read old threads it is amazing how many of them deviate off the OP..lol. I have one of those Hosa brand XLR to 6.5 trannys and i want to get the actual guts out of it .How do i approach this?Nothing seems to want to just unscrew so i guess a hacksaw will be involved, where.how do i start? I followed up a few references to items stocked by Mouser and suchlike for small transformers but all the links seemed to be dead,no one seems to stock them anymore.(I'm looking to put a tranny into a mike shell)

The was a fairly recent thread talking about them. I think there were a few options brought up. I think greg sells them. And there was another xfmr brought up, but i can't remember the name. I believe the thread topic was comparing two mics. Green Bullet and sm57? Or maybe it was the dm13 thread.
Anyhow im sure someone remembers.
As far as the Hosa im not sure, but i wouldnt mess with putting a cheap xfmr in a shell. Itll probably just cause problems. And if its that tough to open it likely won't work by them time your fine busting it open anyhow.
But im no expert. Just my opinion. ----------

Why bother? I got my two (male xlr to jack and a female xlr to jack) from Amazon for a few euros each. Mine are inline cables with a switch for hi z and low z. Cheap and cheerful. And they do the job. R

That would be nice. A switchable.
I have a nice Shure inline hiz. I figure you get enough use out of them, you might Aswell buy a nice one.
Surely greg or someone more knowledgeable will weigh in soon. ----------

The reason i need to put the tranny into the shell is because i am building Harp mics .Sold a couple to locals already. It's really just a hobby thing i am no threat to the big guys that's for sure. The shells are very small bullets I have used tape recorder mike elements (mostly Akai) but they are just too expensive to import to where i live (NZ).The only place that has them regularly is the US e bay.The postage is the killer.Twice the cost of the mike in one case So i need a reliable source of good but cheap elements .I just got a Pyle SM57 and it would be a perfect donor but of course it's LowZ so hence the original question. Every second Akai on the Bay is now a "blues harp mike" at twice the price they used to be.
