Any good? My local music store has a discounted shop display model for sale at close to half price. I'm going to go and demo it this weekend with my gear but I'd like to get any feedback from those of you that may have used one before.... Thanks.

Hey, Ian. I've got one--had it for many years now.
It's beautifully retro, louder than you might think... and not really a true harp amp.
I did some tube swaps (trying to remember... maybe swapped the AX for an AY) via the Doug's Tubes route (great site and service), and it's distinctly more harp-friendly now. I can access more of the volume range before break up, and I can get it loud enough to get a little crunch--but it's still seems suited more to jazz and clearer tones than the typical dirty blues sound. Is that because it's an EL84 power tube, and not a 6v6? Or because it's totally closed up in the back? These are things I don't know, but have considered.
If I had an extra DeLorean and a spare flux capacitor, I'd probably go back and spend the $300-ish (plus the cost of the tube swap) on a Kalamazoo from the fabulous Greg Heumann.
All that being said... if you can get it for cheap, and swap out the main tubes so it's not quite so hot (and prone to feedback), it might be an excellent deal. Best of luck to you, either way.

To respond to one of the questions posed in FJ post, No inherent problem with an el84. That's what the Zoo uses too.

OK, update... the shop also have a vox av15 that they said could trial. It looks pretty interesting. All tube, with some effects and 15 watt.... Anyone tried one?

Av15? I've used ac15, and was surprised at how good it sounded, but was in a recording studio...not sure how good it would be on a gig. Don't know the 'av' though

I've looked in to it now. It's the new model and is a combination of tube and solid state. May be interesting. Tube preamp... basic modeling.
