Onie Wheeler was also a harmonica playing regular in Roy Acuff's band, with Jimmie Riddle, himself a fine harmonica player who was Acuff's harmonica soloist on such 1940s fare as Fireball Mail and Tennessee Waltz, moved to piano.
Wheeler recorded a series of singles with himself as vocalist and harmonica player that, while they were clearly aimed at a country audience, were really early rock&roll. =========== Winslow
What a band. Love watching Earl Scruggs stand there with a half assed grin on his face playing the LIVING SHIT out of the banjo. You all think playing harp is a challenge? Try playing Scruggs style 3-finger banjo at 200 beats per minute. Then Paul Warren and Josh Graves step in and shred on fiddle and dobro. By comparison the harmonica playing is weak sauce indeed.
I can listen to Flatt and Scruggs all night long. The boys played some mean 12 bar blues too-- "Foggy Mountain Special" comes to mind.
This is some of the greatest of all American music.
