The "hohner only" custom thread got me thinking. Can you get Suzuki parts anywhere? I tried getting a new comb for a bluesmaster but the Canadian distributor said I can't get it but I could send it for warranty review. This sucker is 10 years old. I was able to get reed screws for Suzuki, but not reeds. Hohner and Seydel sell everything needed to rebuild a harp, I wish it was that easy with Suzuki. I'm too scared to tweak them for fear of busting them and not having parts to repair.
Anyone know if there's a seller of Suzuki parts anywhere?

I get reed plates from Rockin Ron's I have a couple of combs from Blue Moon Harmonicas The BMH ProMaster comb is much better than the stock Suzuki comb and improved the playability and eliminated the galvanic current I got with the stock comb by having a consistant anodize coat that keeps the comb electrically insulated. (Aluminum + brass + saliva = 0.6 volts)

Here in the US, Suzuki has some parts available, but not individual reeds. We have some combs in stock, but not BluesMaster--Manji and ProMaster mostly.

The Bluesmaster plates will fit on a Manji, yes, but you will have to drill holes for the cover plate screws.

"can I Manji-fy my bluesmaster reedplates?"
You may also want to polish the front of the plates because they are not smooth on the lips/tongue as they were made to be used with a recessed comb. The HarpMaster/Bluesmaster covers will not lay flat on the reed plates, too. that may or may not be a problem for you, depending on your embouchure.
On the other hand, you can easily put Manji plates into a stock plastic harpmaster comb. The plastic is just pliable enough may make the harp more airtight if the plates are warped. But that wasn't your question...

Right...the bluesmaster doesn't have the groove for the coverplates. Shoot!
I like Suzukis fine, but no parts available is really not good.
Thanks for the replies!

Like I say, it isn't that there are no parts available--what is it you are looking for?
Edit--are you in Canada?

I wouldn't think it would be that hard For suzuki to just --set a aside a room --take some Reeds, cover plates, combs and sell them out of that room--just pull em off assembly line- There is a market for "people who work on there own harps and or other peoples harps---they wouln'nt have to do repairs or warranty---simply sell 'THE DOG-ON PARTS
-just sayin

Suzuki is Japanese--I work for the US company that imports the harps. So it isn't as easy as setting aside a room. We are nowhere near an assembly line.

Good thoughts, but buying reedplates to get the comb is expensive. The stock comb is what 10-15 bucks from other companies?
I'll probably just let my bluesmaster stay dead and be a little more shy about Suzukis. I know the other companies have parts available.

But, you would have backup reedplates, in any key you wanted .

At the risk of offending, how expensive is a new Bluesmaster anyway?

By comparison to Hohner, Suzuki is a very "Parts Friendly" company. For example, if you bought a new Golden Melody from Hohner in the C-Shop (if they even sell GM's) or from any number of online retailers, it would cost you about $35 to $40. However, if you go to Hohner's C-Shop and buy the parts to make a Golden Melody here's how it breaks down.
http://www.hohnershop.com/hohner-shop-us/ GM Parts Comb $17.00 Reed Plates $33.00 Cover Plates $30.00 Cover Plate Screws $12.00 Reed Plate Screws $13.00 Total $105.00
They might include the reed plate screws with a set of reed plates so that means it would cost ONLY $92.00 to build a $35-$40 harp.
Snowman is exactly right - if he was talking about Hohner. One could argue that you could make money just by buying new Hohners and parting them out.
I am a both a Suzuki and a Hohner Dealer. Even though the prices I pay for complete Hohner harmonicas and parts is less than retail, the numbers still hold true. It would cost twice as much to build a Golden Melody than it would to buy a new one and I can tell you that frequently when I need parts, I just buy the whole harmonica instead and harvest the part I need. Eventually, I will use the other components.
However, Suzuki is a different story. I could buy a complete Manji or I could buy the individual components and my cost for the components would be about $2.00 more than the complete harp. So Suzuki is very "Parts Friendly".
As Gary has mentioned, I do make Custom Combs - they are "Custom" Combs Gary - not "replacement" combs:) - that will fit all the recessed reed plate Suzuki models such as the HarpMaster or BluesMaster. I also have a fair amount spare parts lying around my shop as does everyone who works on harps. And, of course, I can order any replacement part you want for you. To my knowledge, Suzuki does not offer this opportunity online so you have to go through a dealer.
If I can be of service, let me know.

I did recently send a dozen or so combs to Europe because the guy wanted black combs . Suzuki harp master combs are a dark gray, delta frost combs are black . He put the DF combs to use in harp masters . I'm sure someone could send you a comb. BUT , treating yourself to a BMH is fantastic. I have several of tom's combs. The harpmaster model.I have an aluminum one that is a great harp! ---------- www.shakeylee.com
