Im confused --did u make you yr earbuds, into a mic, I;ve wanted to do that --hav'nt tried it yet ----what did u cut away --the plastic around the bud??? thanks
I actually didn't make this video, and have not tried this yet either. Just stumbled across it on youtube. I think he just snipped off the earphones and thats it, but I think he has it plugged in to his computer and recorded that way. i'm not sure if this would work plugged into an amp, but it might..
Im Pretty sure what he does is take a handsfree headset that comes with a cell phone, cut the earbuds off, and use the mic. It's just a little tiny mic so hes overdrivin the hell out of it. ----------
Thanks I don't use a 'hands free' handset, so I was a little lost---But I know that earbuds with a pre amp will or should work. maybe Ill try it for fun??
To me it sounds absolutely awful. Exactly what I would expect it to sound like. Shrill, no bass. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg
Thank goodness someone said it. I know beauty is in the ear of the beholder but this is horrific isn't it? :) Whereas Grey Owl's contact mic I thought was pretty good.
Ok, yes. You are right. It doesn't have the bass response of say, a Bulletini (which has a great bass response, btw), and it probably doesn't sound even half as good as one of the 5 dollar vintage tape recorder mics I have. And the list can go on and on about mics that this does not sound as good as. I am not trying to say this is the new DIY mic that everyone is going to go crazy trying to make. But as a novelty thing that can be done with something as common as iPhone earbuds, I thought that it was pretty cool. One of these days i'm gonna be at a jam with no mic and all i'm gonna have is my iPod and a pair of scissors, and then i'll be happy I saw this video, lol… I guess in that regard it is more of a party trick than something I would ever really rely on.
