Rod Piazza's Dirrty Blues Band's 1st and 2nd (only?) albums are available as a box set. I was reading the liner notes and Jimmy Forest was the sax player as well as Willie Green.
I just think it is interesting because Konstantin made that recording imitating Forest, I bought 4 CDs by Forest at around the same time that I bought the Piazza. I am finally getting around to reading the liner notes and there it is.
By the way, although Piazza sounds much more like a beginner than he does on the Bacon Fat music, where he is almost formed into the style we know (and actually plays some things I like better!) his playing is filled with lots of energy and feeling. If I met a 19 year old playing like Piazza was then, I would certainly have a sense that he was bound to become a professional.
Interesting! I have this cd and I listened to it long time ago. I've never thought it was that Jimmy Forrest! I've read booklet more carefully after you mentioned it. Thank you! IMO Rod became as close to the sax playing as he never was on his last album! There is a tune on album called Frankenbop. Piazza has phrasing and and approach like Big Jay Mcneely on it! ---------- Konstantin Kolesnichenko(Ukraine) CDBaby Amazon ITunes Google Music my music on youtube
i am surprised no one commented on the early william clarke track. sometimes i wonder how much interest in this kinda of thing still exist. after all, this is modern blues harmonica and the recording was made 38 years ago. not sure what is considered modern at this point in time.
