I was at the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas this week and was asked to sing a bit at the Pizza Magazine private party. They had that old Harmony Rocket onstage and the hired players let me use it. Walter

thanks Sarge. I had more fun playing the guitar acoustically in the restroom at the convention center to a few people that were really listening but nobody filmed that part. Walter

That's great, Walter. I often find myself skipping parts of videos these days, but I watched the whole thing. That's the fruit of your spontaneous aesthetic: you've got an old, deep groove and new words, and I like the tension between the two. I also found myself wondering a) what the pizza folks were thinking, and b) what the guitar player in the band was thinking. The kind of blues you're playing have a lot of imitators these days, but not so many in-the-lineage deployers. You gigged with Lightnin' Hopkins. Obviously some folks in the crowd are thinking "Sounds like that old-time blues." The guitar player probably got a little deeper than that, if he knows blues at all. But the point is, you brought the old magic into the present moment, and the proof of that was that the video was ruined--or made great--by the way your peers in the pizza business were scrambling with videocams in the front of the frame to capture what you were doing.

A very rich spot in time, all in all. Thanks for sharing that.

Pretty cool. I think the guy off camera at the end saying, "One more. One more." says it all.

Thanks everyone and to you Adam. I dig the lag in my vocal delivery because sometimes I have no idea when the words will come out. I heard a lot of the old blues guys and Sinatra do that and it really grabbed me big time. The guy with the greased hair and glasses filming was the guitar player. PMQ pizza magazine (the party was thrown by them) is located in Oxford Mississippi. He knows of you Adam and is a real nice guy. I think most of the pizza people thought it was a novelty because I am known to them as a pizza maker. I went out in the hall to a spot that had natural echo and played for about 15 minutes to the guitar player and the other guy playing guitar and harp for the gig. He was a Bob Dylan type player and I was able to get some decent sounds out of his cheap knock off harp (you can see his case on the stage). This was the first time I have played on an amplified stage in about 3 years. I prefered the hallway where the 2 musicians listened. Both work for PMQ magazine. I told them to check you out. I have played harp quite a bit lately in the pizzeria as the pizzas bake and one day heard an old sounding harp going and it was a 95 year old woman! We jammed some. I also played a lot at the pizza expo with to a bunch of Italian pizza makers they brought in. We all danced as I played in front of our hotel - the Wynn a fancy place. I wonder what the people coming in and out of the lobby thought of that :-) I was also interviewed for Pizza Today Magazine and I blew harp on that video.
Things are popping faster than I can keep up with. We were on ABC News NYC a couple weeks ago and Good Morning America did a piece on us too. That led to over 50 TV and 100 radio stations around the country running the piece. Then the phone rang and it was the Ellen Degeneras Show. They interviewed me for 30 minutes and we may be on the show soon. Then NPR called and are interviewing us this week. Also lots of local coverage on our pizzeria and we have lines before we open and out the door most days now. All this was done with no paid advertising. Like when I got to meet, become friends with the greats of the blues, the same thing has happened with the greats of pizza. I hung out with Paulie Gee (Brooklyn) who is a king of NYC pizza and guys like that at Vegas. Very exciting times that are paralleling my musical experiences only 40 years later...... Walter

Sarge: I read that- very sad news. He was a good soul.

Harpaholic: I wish :)

We had an MBH forum member in today. I got to talk some music and blow a little harp while the pizzas baked. Walter

Thanks Tom. I don't know but a ton of people appreciate our cause as we have been packed with customers and most comment on the cause. It has been everything I ever dreamed of. Walter

Thanks Stan. I am glad you like the tunes :-) NPR radio interviews us today. Things are popping like back in my music days when a rock star took a liking to me and stuff happened so fast I could hardly keep up but then it would soon fade out as they moved on to other things. In that sense this is a whole other energy as it keeps building from the outside and I don't have to push our concept like I did most of my musical career. Walter

Here is a link to the article. We were contacted last week by NBC Nightly News in NYC and they are discussing sending a crew out here for a national news story. National Public Radio was in last week for 4 hours doing a story on us. I continue to play in the shop off the cuff when it inspires me. If my music career ever went this good I would have been on the Madison Square Garden circuit :-) Walter
