Is anyone aware of a site that warehouses amp schematics, recalls, common repairs and mods etc.? Preferably it would have a more of a technical bent than a social one (less mining).

When I repaired TVs as a hobby there was a subscription site that was based in Spain. I would plug in the TV ID and had access to their accumulated wealth of info on that unit: recalls, mfg defects, common problems and bench notes were all there in one place. It made TV repair as easy as painting by numbers. [Much repair was simply resoldering.]

Is there anything out there like that for vintage tube amps? I'm not starting a new career tho I can already see how it could become an addiction. I have a couple of messes (one is a dead set) and would like to bring them back to the original design from the original schematic. Both have obviously been worked on judging from the cold solders, melted insulation and dangerously exposed wires.

FWIW, I recently read a MBH thread about a novice doing work on his own amp. There was some excellent advice including safe discharge. The general response from those who know was, "Go for it!". I agree but after looking at my two amps I think basic soldering skill needs to be stressed a little bit more.

I'm not feeling the love and my hurt is deep. I guess I'll play some unamplified blues. Meanwhile, life goes on and my search brought me here among many other places:

Nice site.

It's probably not lack of love, mate. More likely anyone who read this (e.g. me) didn't have any helpful info, and didn't want to post just for the sake of writing something, only for you to think "Aha! A reply!", read the post, and think "Hmpf, thanks for nothing!" ;)

Best of luck on your quest.

I too had nothing to add. I have found only googling when searching for old amp schematics and the hits are random & scattered. Probably where you are at now.

there are all kinds of resources out there
the spam moster usually attacks when you post any kind of relevant info, so perhaps people are relucktant to post this type of info. it takes quite a bit of work to post a simple link, only to have it disapear.

Thank you all for your comments and tips. I'll check the links and keep them in my reference folder. I've been following the amp rebuild threads on MBH since I first came to this site. I admire the tenacity, the findings and final results of these projects.

I hit a wall during my search when trying to find two wiring diagrams or schematics that agreed. I've decided to draw a schematic of what I have and compare it to what I find.

That is a very good way to proceed. The fact that you have the ability to do this means that you will succeed.

BN - It's a 59 Premier Twin 8. Thanks for your offer of assistance. I may take you up on it down the road. Right now I'm looking for a quality parts source.
