I have a few questions for the microphone historians. I know that the Shure company discontinued the 520 Green Bullet in the late 1970s and revived them as 520DX sometime in the '80s. What were the years that the mics were not being produced and when did production in Mexico start? Are all 520DX mics made in Mexico? When were the crystal elements replaced by a solid state electronics?
I have heard from reliable sources that the new Hohner Blues Blaster mic sounds pretty bad. Is it because Astatic no longer makes them? What were the years that the Blues Blaster was the JT-30?
I know that's a lot questions but I would like to know before I shop for a used mic on Ebay or wherever. If any of you know the answers to any or all of these questions I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Greenbullets.com will answer you Shure ??
Buy a mic from a reputable builder like Greg. I have heard nothing but great things about the Bulletini mic. Check out the video of Aki Kumar demoing that mic.

Could not find anything on Greenbullets.com except a website for sale. But a goggle search led me to greenbulletmics.com (maybe that's the one you meant) which is the site I need.

Speaking of greenbulletmics.com, I once bought a JT30 with CM element from Dave Kott, the guy who created that site. He did excellent work and charged a low price. Definitely a reputable builder in my book. I should also note that later, I had Dennis Gruenling put a crystal element in a JT30 shell for me, and that mic turned out awesome - another reputable builder.

Dave also helped me out....I had a Blues Blaster...now I have a Blues Blaster with a great older CM in it. He's a great guy. We live in the same town and used hang at the same place when we were younger. I never had any idea of his "hobby" until a few years ago. He builds some great Amps as well. ----------

Thanks, guys. I didn't know about greenbulletmics.com until yesterday evening after I started this thread.
Regarding the JT-30, the patent must have expired on the design because there's a lot microphones out there these days using that shell design(with the same grill) with names I've never heard of. Most are probably made in China.

I have a modern blues blaster, the old ones used an mc151 element, the newer o es use a Japan made element. I also have a jt30 from rick bealle from harmonicaboogie.com it has an old vintage element in it, and to tell you the truth I rather the blues blaster because it's a hotter mic. It doesnt sound that bad really. I'm currently in the market for a green bullet as well, my budget won't allow a vintage 520 so I will end up with a DX model.
