Not sure just how old or which model Green Bullet I have?
I'd just like to know out of interest exactly what model it is and where it was made if anyone can id what's left of the label
As you can see the label is just about all gone now with only a bit of detail left on it.
I can't even remember when I got it. I must have had it for maybe 30 years!
Cheers JG

Yeah, it looks like a garden variety modern Mexican Bullet to me.

To find out (nearly) everything you'd like to know about Green Bullet mic's, Dave Kott's is the definitive web site.

Green Bullet Mic's

Shure's own web site is also very good once you've identified the specific mic'.

I'm about 95% shure that that's not a 520DX - it is a 520D someone added a volume control to. The 520DX volume control always came with a different knob, and the label style was different too.

The Green Bullet mics were originally discontinued in 1977 and none of those made until that time ever had a volume control nor did they have a cord longer than 9 feet in length. They began reissuing them around 1982/83 with a 20 foot cord and came with a volume control as an option. From looking at the metal label, it had to be made sometime in the 80's or 90's before they went to the present set up.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the volume control was added just after I bought it 30 years ago.
It was a second hand mic even then.
I was put onto the mic and told who to send it to for the volume control mod at the time by Jim Conway of the Back Sliders, one of Australia's best know harp players
This was a fairly standard mod most of the serious players did even back then.
I just thought the label type would have helped tie it down a bit tighter. Even if it has mostly gone.

As stated, its a 520D controlled magnetic, duel impedance, made in mexico.

Pretty sure its a 80's model. Good chance it has a two letter date code on the CM if original.

I guess it's a bit late to ask how they rate compared to modern mics.
I know from some reports they are said to have feedback issues compared to other mics, but is that related to the later 520 DX models?
I pulled it apart to have a look to see if there was any other info inside and took a couple of pics.
They are fairly simple things then! only the two wires.
I suppose the element can be replaced for a better one?

The 99S556 dual impedance CM was the last generation of Shure CM element. they had improved their design and engineering to give it LESS distortion and MORE high frequency response - both of which work AGAINST you as a harp player.

The modern mylar diaphragm element in the 520DX goes even further in the "wrong" direction.

But the earlier single impedance CM's and the CR's that preceded them had less high freq. response so sound less harsh. If you want an element that sounds like those good old days and doesn't break the bank, consider replacing it with The Heumann Element.

The Heumann Element is a new high impedance dynamic element I developed specifically for harp players. It is in fact the ONLY element ever developed specifically for harp. It is made from a modern vocal mic element to which I make both mechanical and electrical modifications.  It has big, fat tone with plenty of bass. Ronnie Shellist says it reminds him of a vintage Ceramic element but with more output. So far it makes every small amp it has been tested with, including Kalamazoo, Memphis Mini and the Harp Train 10 sound better than anything else I know. It sells for $159 and is available now. I have gaskets to fit it to Shure bullets, JT30’s, T3’s, Turner "+2"/254 shells and my wood mics. Gaskets are $15.

"I think The Heumann Element is exciting. It's remarkable that there is finally a new microphone element that harmonica players can use for great tone. The Heumann Element is The Future of harp mics!" -Charlie Musselwhite - September 2015
