I have been playing with Bass guitar over the past few months. Along the way I acquired a Zoom B3 multi effects pedal. Great bit of kit. I find it way more useable than my old Zoom 707II.
Last year I modded a Peavey Royal 8 with the Alnico mod kit for harp and some valves and a speaker from Watford Valves and an attenuator.
Starting to learn how to get the sounds I want from the Peavey. Over the last week I have been trying to compare the Zoom and the Peavey for distortion.
Apparently the Zoom has some clever tube emulation stuff so I am hoping it will make a respectable noise.
I am using the Zoom with headphones so feedback isn't a factor and the Peavey's line out allows me to put it between the mic and the Zoom.
I am having trouble understanding which effects I should use. The amp models don't seem to overdrive. The closest I can get is the Bass driver effect. None of it holds a candle to the Peavey.
Am I using the wrong effects for this comparison or is the modded tube amp really light years better than digital emulations?
Thanks in advance Paul
