Wow! What a show. I've been to the last three of these shows in Seattle, and they have all been great! What a lineup for this: Hummel, Ricci, Salgado, Aki Kumar and Charley Musselwhite. All of them were sensational in different ways. Add to that a "backup band" of Little Charlie, Anson Funderburgh, R. W. Grigsby and Wes Starr, and you have a crazy good show. From start to finish there was great energy in the band and crowd. As cool as all of the harp players/singers were, it was almost as much fun watching the interplay between Little Charlie and Anson Funderburgh, and the bedrock solid groove of Wes Starr and R. W. Grigsby. Top all of this off with all of these guys being really accessible after the show, and even before and during it if you ran into to them, and it was truly a great experience. As much fun as anything was talking to Little Charlie afterwards. My friend, Brian Lee (a great harp and guitar player in his own right), and I went up to shake his hand. Brian commented how cool it was to see how he and Anson complimented each other, and Little Charlie spent a good ten minutes plus talking about his approach (on some songs) being somewhat reminiscent of Charlie Christian while Anson was more like T-Bone Walker, and how they made that work and sound interesting. Then he launched into how he stays away from 7th chords except as part of the 5th chord because they give you no place to go except back to the one. Instead he uses a lot of 6th, 9th and other chords. I didn't follow much of this being a bit weak on theory and not a guitar player, but it was cool to hear such an experienced pro talk about how and why he does things. Same goes for all of the other guys. Anyway, sensational show that I heartily suggest you catch in Seattle or wherever you can.

Tonight's show was amazing! I got to talk with Mooncat for a moment afterward, and am going to attempt (again) to post some photos.

I was at the late friday show in Seattle and the monday show in Vancouver.
Vancouver didn't get jason or charlie or Big John so Aki, Curtis and Mark got extended sets on both the first half and second half of the show plus a couple tunes with just Charlie, Anson, Wes and R.W.
Plus Colin James sat in for 'Killin Floor' with Anson and Curtis on vocals/harp. UNBELIEVABLE!
