I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm still fairly new to this so Ill ask anyway what is the most commonly used key in the low register for harmonica- I'm in the market for a Low key thunderbird and was wondering which ones would be best to start out with
The two most essential for me is Low Eb and Low F, and then Low D. Those work especially well when playing horn lines or playing as part of a horn section. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
The only real secret to that lowest bend on the low Eb is avoid using extra breath force and basically teach yourself to make subtle adjustments in your embouchure and even more so with the inside shape of your mouth. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
You'll have the least need for harps that are normally in a lower register, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C. Starting with Db through F# you might enjoy playing the lows. Personally my LEb, LF and LF# get the most use. A LLF will have occasional use for very specific licks. More recently I discovered playing "Music of the Night" from Phantom on a LDb to be a rather moving experience.
Thanks for the tip Raven - It ain't dirty-southern blues but "Music of the Night" from Phantom really does lay out nice on my SS LDb. So does Kenny Chesney's Old Blue Chair,, Jackson Brown's These Days and Stevie Wonder's Seems so long. It's a baritone voice for me.
