Many of American’s greatest got their start in the little red one-room rural schoolhouse. Kids of all ages sat together, and the teacher might teach basic reading and arithmetic to the first graders, Shakespeare and algebra to the 10-graders, and everything else in between. All the kids heard all the lessons, and if they could grasp something that was supposedly above their level, they could learn quicker.

At the Harmonica Collective, we’ve always welcomed harmonica players at all levels. While our main focus was advanced and intermediate players, beginners were welcome, too. If someone found the classes beyond their current state of understanding or ability, they could step out and have a one-on-one with Buzz Krantz or Dan Ridgeway to get them up to speed.

Having a backline for beginners has worked well, but then we thought, why not make it even better? Let’s create an enriched separate track that focuses in an organized way on fundamentals for beginners and important skills and concepts for early intermediates?

Hence the Red Schoolhouse. We’re still developing it, but let me say this: If you’re wowed by all the talent at the Harmonica Collective but are afraid it’ll be above your head, come anyway. Our goal is to advance your playing at any level so that you not only have a great experience but have the tools and understanding to advance your playing. The Red Schoolhouse gives you one more way to get there.
