I was playing a gig last night and my rig lost power and got feedbacky. Probably a 20% drop in power. After fiddling around i swapped mics. Boom, problem solved. Tried the first mic 3 hrs later at second gig that day and same thing. Rig lost power and started feeding back after about a half hour of play. Swapped mics again, all good. All the gear has been in the car for a few days, probably about 30 deg out so gear was cold. I have left my gear out when below 0 several times and never had a problem.
OK question: erent mic is a bullet with a 99A86 element. Anyone ever had one go low output and microphonic like a bad tube acts? Mic does have a VC. Seem weird to me. Thanks...BN

On one of my CR elements the pin that is glued to the diaphragm came loose and output became weak. Chuck Gurney reglued the element and it was great again.....until someone stole it at a gig last year! GRRRRR! Good luck! Jay ---------- Music speaks where words fail.

The CR's can be fixed. One to many drops loosens the glue and output is reduced. they can be saved. As 9000 says CHuck Gurney can fix it. He fixed one fo my black labels for the same reason.

Well, I fixed this element a year or so ago by putting a drop of super glue on the drive pin. I can see it going low power but the way it got microphonic is throwing me off. I'm trying to figure out what causes a mic to create weird feedback after a half hr of playing. It was still not too bad open cup but when you would cup it tight it would howl. I'll get it open and see what I see. Thanks Folks...BN

Well, All I found was a borderline solder joint on the element and a dirty jack. I put 1/4" jacks in my mics. The previous drive pin fix is still good. While I was in there I removed the restrictive silk that is behind the grill and replaced it with a piece of speaker grill cloth. Vintage Ampeg gold drizzle! Did not know how to test mic besides playing it for an hour so I hooked a speaker to my wave form generator and hooked the scope to the mic using a 1/4" phone plug. Set the mic in front of the speaker and watched the scope for an hour or so. Mic output looked nice, pot made no weird static on scope trace. I don't know, maybe it's fixed?? I'll find out next time I play out.
