I mentioned in a different thread I'm really trying to get ready to play my first blues jam in 2016. I've been playing along with Jimi Lees's jam tracks for a while but looking for recommendations for other jame tracks.

What have you used/recommend?

Thanks!

I like the ones Adam has on here for sale featuring Charlie Hilbert. The thing I like about those is that they are basically some blues standards with vocals rather than just groove type tracks that don't have any vocals; like almost all the other backing tracks I have. I enjoy playing with them a lot.

Some other real nice ones are the Shoblues harp tracks. You can get some great harmonica classic backing tracks that are done real nicely.

check out Harmonicaboogie.com http://jamq.org/jamqueue/harmonica/hbmainstage/listeningpost.php
It has lots of free backing tracks in various styles which you can download plus it is a lot of fun to record and post your recordings although you can download the tracks whether you record or not.

Check these out. The most recent page for the Lawrence Fritts/University of Iowa blues jam tracks. Some pretty good stuff here, and lots of it. I put these all on an MP3 player and run them through the aux on my amp.

For those on a budget, you can't beat the price (free)

"Sittin in with the Greats" classic blues songs. Two of each song, one with vocals, one with out. Each song has two 12 bar sections without lead instruments for your solo's. The best I have found.

Thanks for the input guys! Will be download and jamming along here shortly.

The most frustrating thing about jam tracks (especially to someone like me who isn't the most talented player) is where to start. It would be wildly advantageous and interesting to supply seasoned players with a few different jam tracks and have them record themselves, thoughts and approaches to each one. It would be a cool look into how different players approach different songs and their varying final product.

Hi 703. I'm a bit pushed for time right now but a couple of things I've found necessary with backing tracks is they can sometimes be far too long and in the wrong key. I now chop them down to about 2.5 mins maximum so I don't keep repeating myself and don't run out of playing ideas. I also change the key sometimes because I may feel I can make a better job with either a higher or lower harp.
Here's a quick example from a while back. If you want a copy of the track to see how you would improv over it let me know.

Seven .... goto this site and download " Finding Your Inner Groove" is a pretty good lesson. Infact they all are.

Edit: it breaks down the different grooves. And ronnie plays along with a bass player. Not exactly what you were looking for, but it helped me out. If you listen to what he plays itll give you some riffs for each style of groove.

Sorry to drag this thread back up, but I haven't been around here to much recently, so I was scrolling back a few pages to see what's been shakin' and I found this.

I need to make myself spend more time with jam tracks and the ones that Harp Study mentioned that Adam put out with Charlie Hilbert have me kinda excited. I think I would really benefit from the chance to practice comping and filling around vocals and not just soloing the whole time.

I can also highly recommend the other Tracks that Adam has available ("Blues Harmonica Play Along Sessions"-$12). Seven.Oh.Three mentioned that "It would be a cool look into how different players approach different songs" and that is exactly what Adam does in the hour long video lesson that comes with the tracks. He talks about how HE would approach each of the tracks. Very insightful. I think some of his best teaching is hidden in that video.
