In my stocking was the perfect harp for playing melody. I had been drooling over it during the past few years of development. It is uniquely designed and manufactured to facilitate and hold bend notes. The reeds, produced in pairs, are rough cut and surface ground to a mirror finish on all 6 planes. Touch offs during the grind are minuscule in order to maintain low temperature, thus retaining the metallurgical characteristics of the alloy*. They are then etched microscopically to create accurate and subtle stops (steps, if you will) which can be hit and maintained in such a manner as to be indistinguishable from any other note in terms of purity and quality.

*The mixture of this alloy is a carefully guarded secret and forged in house. When I asked about it I was told to watch for updates to the periodic table (whatever that means). I suppose, in layman terms, they were saying "Nunya!".

Then I woke up. Once again I was cold and alone. While sipping my coffee I reread the only card I got this year. I can always count on this one. For the past 45 years it has faithfully arrived 2 weeks before Christmas. It is a 'Thank You' from my ex-wife's mother. Every year she throws a family party on the day that marks my divorce from her lovely daughter.

While this card had some positive indications, reconciliation continues to be nothing more than a remote possibility. Of the 35 guests who signed it, only 26 left comments that either attacked my character or wished me ill (or both). Last year there were 24 so I was very pleased to see that 2 of my great-grandchildren had learned to read and write. Their vocabulary suggests that they are being home schooled, which is nice.

Hope y'all had a great Christmas, too!
