Surely someone here can answer this. I haven't been able to find any definitive answers online anywhere. But i have a Powdercoating booth at work with tons of colors at my disposal. Ive been wanting to try for a while so this week i took the covers from that lee oskar i butchered trying to emboss it and hand sanded it, powdered it yellow and it came out awesome. I figured it would but i wanted to test if the high heat would warp it or not. However I'm pretty sure putting toxic paint in your mouth isn't good. Lol. So the question, finally, is. ... what kind of powder do people use to powder cover plates?? Is it just FDA?

Talk to Blue Moon. His powdered covers are holding up for me quite nicely.

There are food grade powders, but most powder coaters dont use them because of cost. Manufacturers do. There are many types of powder, epoxy, hybrid, polyester, urethane, ceramic, etc. All of them are harmful in one way or another.
I have been powder coating mics for close to fifteen years. I wouldnt put a powder coated harp to my lips even if I knew 100% the powder is FDA. How many class action lawsuits are pending due in part to the FDA?

My lips have been in contact with plenty of things I'd rank on the Risk List well above powder coated harp covers.
There was that "dancer" in Vancouver, for example.

I have quite a few FDA powders. We coat machines for some plants that require FDA powder. So if yall been doin it and your not dead yet, I suppose its good enough for me. Ive put plenty of things in my body knowing it was likely to kill me. But then again they were much better than fancy painted covers. ---------- I Hate to advocate Drugs, Alcohol, Violence, or Insanity to Anyone, But They've Always Worked for Me. •• Hunter S.
