Hi,
there's a nice short solo in the track (starting at 1:33 on the album), which I have no problems playing except for a couple of notes in the middle part where the highest and fastest notes are played.
I think a Bb Harp is used, but I can't figure out how he played it. Especially the A flat note in the middle octave. I have to admit that I know overblowing or overbending only in theory. But I can find out how to play a A flat with a B flat harp, but its that really happening, or is a harp in another key used?
More general, is there an easy strategy to find out which harp is used in a certain piece? Up to now, I just play along the piece in cross harp position. As soon as I find out its not cross harp, I'm lost and have to do a bit of trial and error.
Thanks,
Henning

The solo is done by Charlie McCoy and he used a Bb harp in standard tuning I believe. It's posible to hit an Ab overblow on the six hole but I don't hear it. I don't believe Charlie used overblows but I could be wrong.

I think Charlie probably has the 7 draw tuned down a half step (which gives the same note as 6OB)as it sounds too slick to contain 2 OB's on 6. Our own Todd Parrott is keen on the 7 draw tuned down half a step.
You could try a temporary solution by putting a very tiny piece of Blu tak at the free end of the 7 draw reed and adjust the amount until you get the semi-tone drop in pitch.

Thanks a lot to both of you!
It's great to learn about the tuning option. Personally I will stay with the standard tuning for now, for my own playing. But for my learning its great to know this!
