After trying it with the band, I think the idea of playing straight horn parts could work. I'm looking for resources for arranging parts for a horn section. Does anyone have anything they could point me to? Thanks.

I am no expert, but I like Finale. It allows me to input notes and/or chords and it will play back what I wrote so I can hear if it was what I intended or not. It also has the ability to scan in sheet music and convert it. My most successful project so far has been to scan in a piano score and rearrange it for brass quintet.
The ability to type in a chord progression and then lay down lead lines over it and hear how they sound might be useful to you. Finale gives the ranges for many instruments, but has no guidelines for harmonica. It will tell you if you scored too high for a intermediate trumpet player but it won't let you know you just scored an overblow in the harp part. This spreadsheet will tell you that.

I use Finale a lot and it's great to hear your score and make sure it sounds ok.
For the skill of arranging that a little different "Secret Composer" can help and the Don Sebesky book also. I'm sure there are others. ----------

There is nobody who is better suited to help you than Michael Peloquin, who:
- Is a fantastic harp player
- Is a fantastic horn player
- writes horn arrangements for many bands
And he teaches. I'd suggest looking at his site - http://www.harpsax.com - his contact info is there.
Tell him I sent you! ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

Great, thanks Greg I will investigate. Now you mention his name, I remember him being discussed before.
I'll just mention that I've found that the bulletini works very well with the chromatic in this mode.
