OK, I know small is better but I just got and killer deal on a 50 watt 410/115 stack. OK, it seems to run really well. But. I do need some advice… Not sure the impedance is set right on the speakers. As I got it the 410 cab with 4, 16 ohm speakers running through the 8 ohm tap, and the 115 cab with 1 speaker through the 16 ohm tap. It also looks like there might be an 8 ohm white label Eminence Legend replacement speaker in the 410 cab. What to do?

First thing you'll need to do is figure out the actual load of each cabinet. Loads in series add, loads in parallel half. So, for example, two eight ohm speakers in parallel will be a four ohm load. Those same two speakers in series would be a 16 ohm load. Usually, a 4x10 is set up with four eight ohm speakers with them acting as pairs in parallel then in series together. You'll need to figure out the load of the 4x10 to proceed.

What is the load of the 1x15 cab?

Thanks Nathan! OK, this rig is a Peavey (1991-92 vintage) and they are all blue marvels except for the Eminence 10. best I can tell the 15 is the stock blue marvel, Can't read the label. I know… Peavey… don't be a hater. :o)

Mississippi engineering isn't so bad ;) I like their basses.

The 10s are 8 ohm speakers, so you'll need to look at how they are wired to determine the load.

The 15 is probably a 16 ohm load, but I'm not sure because you don't have the exact model.

Classic 50 410/115E. Can't read the label on the 15. Seems original. Wiring on the 410 runs like this: From power to #1+to #2-, #2+ to #3+, #3- to #4+, #4- to #1 - and back to power All marked 16 ohm but for #1 which I suspect is 8ohm. It's the Eminence Legend with the whire label. Can't access the label.
Hope this help Nathan, I appreciate the advice. Life hopefully is one long lesson.

Georgia Bluesman what your describing is series wiring and I imagine it sounds like shit! I'm just guessing, but it was probably originally all 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel. With would give you 4 ohms. That was for the 4 ohm tap and the 1 x 15 speaker is for the 16 ohm tap. Replace the Eminence with a new speaker like the other three and wire it in parallel. Do you know how to do that?

I just googled the speaker model to the load for the 10s, if you are looking at the label, then go with that number.

Yeah, that's a bit confusing, but it seems like they are in series, meaning you have a very high load and a very inefficient cabinet. You aren't running it from a tube head, right?

Chromaticblues has the correct solution.

It also looks as though speaker #3 is wired out of phase in the current configuration, which will cancel some of your waves, particularly bass. It originally was probably wired in two halves, each being two series 8ohm Blue Marvels (#1- to #2+) and (#3- to #4+) making 16 ohms each half. Then you tie #1+ and #3+, and tie #2- and #4- together as each of your leads to the 1/4" plug to your amplifier which makes an overall load of 8 ohms for the 4 speakers. There was a stereo cabinet similar to this, the 410E, that originally had a switch for stereo and mono configurations.

Have you tried to find these speakers and head on the Peavey manual site?
