Wife and I were passing through a small town...stopped for some lunch at a cafe.Looking over the road from our table i see a second hand store ,so as you do, i left the wife to her after lunch coffee and headed over to have look around. Where i live these shops are usually full of old furniture, crockery and awful artwork. This one was no different until i saw a dusty wooden box on a bottom shelf with a sign saying "1950s' Collaro tape recorder Not working 10$." The box is about 18" square and looks to be a Walnut veneer, mmm might make a great stomp box and i'll just dump the guts of it at the tip. Ok get it home and open her up..yep it doesn't work.BUT tucked in one corner is a small Bakelite microphone, about 1" square with a thin 3 foot cable attached. Long story short i plug this thing into my amp and am literally blown away, not only does this 50+ year old (crystal)mike work it has the best tone i have ever personally played through.(for blues). The bottom end is awesome and the top has a really nice mellow edge to it. Anyway if any of you guys in the UK come across a 50s Collaro tape recorder for sale cheap buy it for the Mike alone.. The other bonus was that i got a couple of nice Valves(tubes) out of it. Best 10$ i ever spent.

I love junk shop finds. Here's mine. RCA Stereo record player. I moved chassis to shown position and put a 6x9 and a 10" speaker in cabs. True stereo, two 1/4" jacks that i use my stereo delay to drive, with one RCA jack in for Ipod. 4.5W per channel. This thing sounds awesome and I have played it out! 5 Bucks! + a little time. Mic is a Packard Bell..BN

I found this monster buried under a mountain of crap at a second hand store. My wife raised hell because I paid 90 bucks for it, I sold the 1958 Amperex GZ34 for $300.00. Subbed is a lesser rectifier tube and never looked back.

Wow! Ninety bucks! I'd give you $100 without even trying it out! Very cool, man! All the best to everyone on their search for the perfect amp[s]! Jay ---------- Music speaks where words fail.

Hey Barley, that RCA looks awfully familiar! Isn't that the one we had to listen to in Jr. High back in the early 60's?

Great pics guys. That reminds me what's that story Rod Piazza tells about George Smith either picking out an old tube amp or speaker for his amp out of a rubbish skip, can't really remember it off the top me noggin' right now it's on Rod's old blues harp video I got some place! ----------

"Those British boys want to play the blues real bad, and they do"

Barley, that amp sure looks like a Sano, built in New Jersey. Not many around, they sell for up to a grand currently. Here is a link to one: https://reverb.com/item/868447-vintage-1950-s-sano-stereo-tube-amp-all-original

Yes Rick, it's a Sano. I also have the 1x15 Sano HiFi on the same vintage. Also had a 10W Excelsior Citation at one time (Sano). Anyone here who finds a Sano tube amp for a good price should BUY IT!
