I recently was made aware of this spanish player called Joan Pau Cumellas on another forum.

What a very good player he is. Here he is performing a live blues number.

The talent on harp is amazing on a worldwide scale nowadays.

A very good balance of all that is interesting, somewhat modern along with traditional.

What I like...

1. Commanding stage presence in the service of the music..not the "look at me" style I've seen from others recently.

2. Nice mixture of traditional with fast patterns.

3. Tight band that can bring it down.

4. Occasional OB's that fit the idea, not playing them to show that he can play them.

5. Speed chops apparent, but not overdone.

I like this guy.

He´s really great, although I´ve heard him in a bluegrass band where I thought his style was more fitting. Glad that he´s getting some recognition.
Then there´s the question of singing ...

Hey Grey Owl. Some pals of mine supported him at a bluegrass festival in Ireland a while back. Checkout the cd he has with the Barcelona Bluegrass Band--Lluis Gomez and Joan Pau Cumellas. Lots of cool moothie on there.

Cheers Al, I'll check that out mate.

Iceman. - agreed. I also like the fact that he doesn't mind switching harps even though he can overblow.

Martin. His singing is not at the same level as his harp playing certainly but it's not bad. The accent doesn't help though.
