Hi folks. I'm putting together PA system for small to medium venue gigs. After reading up some, I believe I'm looking for a passive mixer and powered speakers. The problem is the band doesn't have deep pockets for this system. I'm looking for advice on the best bang for the small buck on a mixer and speakers. Any help is much appreciated.

I live in Mass.
From everything I've read, it seems passive mixer and powered speakers is the best way to go. I understand powered mixers aren't nearly as versatile as a passive mixer and the sound is much cleaner with powered speakers. I've been checking CL but haven't found anything yet. Thanks
