So I'm sitting in a restaurant and I tune in to the music they have playing in the background to a pleasant surprise. Normally you will hear the typical Muzak type stuff but what I was hearing was a Smooth Jazz or Jazz Rock fusion. The overall sound was similar to some stuff I've heard from Mike Stern, Scofield or Lee Ritenour, but instead of guitar or typical sax as the lead instrument it was harp. It was definitely diatonic harp in second position, with a bit of dirt, not clean chromatic. At first I was thinking maybe Carlos del Junco, but I've heard enough of his great stuff to pick out his style. It was definitely someone else, but I can't think of who. I would love to pickup the album of the artist who was playing it.

Can anyone identify some artists playing in that style? Maybe I can find out who it may have been, or possibly find some other great artists I've yet to hear.

Randy Singer? He has a smooth jazz harmonica CD, not sure if he plays diatonics on any of the tracks.

I'd suggest listening to PT Gazell playing his half-valved harmonicas.
