That's the stock grill on the Astatic 600-they first came with a plastic grill, which broke easily.
They quickly updated the later 600/600s models with 200 grilles-

Dennis sure got soul! Damn slick harp switches! Where does the D harp go? He must be cupping both the G and D harp as he goes back and forth between them. Magician like palming, it's invisible on my phone.

In the beginning of the song it sounds as if he is letting up the bend on the three hole to 'blue third/major third' it sounds cool but almost off as it seems the guitarist playing minor(ish) chords. Any thoughts on this? Am I completely wrong (wouldn't be the first time)? Is Dennis off (major over minor, big no-no)? Or is he too cool for school and doesn't need to follow the dogmas the rest of his has imposed on our selves?

You can see Dennis reach in his pocket at 1:51 to switch harps.
Dave Gross is playing minor sounding chords, which suits third position on the harp, but second can also be used,as well as first position, evidenced by Rod Piazza on the video in my following post-

Thank you, I can well see him fetching the G harp but where does the D go? He's switching back and forth after he picks up the G...

His scoops at three hole ends up quite high in the major area to my ears. I think it sounds cool but there's some "unusual" tension in those notes, IMHO. I just wondered how it would sound if a mere mortal landed those scoops there? Cool or wrong?

After the switch from D to G harp,he stays with the G harp in 3rd position to the end-it's a George Smith lick with the scoop on the three draw,so it sounds good to me:).

Dennis' track is based on Georges version of "Sharp Harp"

Yeah, he stays with the G. I got fooled at some places where he adds the seven draw to the six draw. Yet another thing I wouldn't do because it's so not second position adding a sixth to a fifth, you know... And his roll of bends from the five draw... I need to dig into Dennis... And third again I believe.

But where do the D harp go???

spectacular.....

i like the format sonic junction uses, just guitar and harp.
Dennis's intonation is so precise. he seems to be working the blues scale in the lower octave in 3 rd position.
this is as good as it gets.

the rod piazza cut has always been a favorite of mine as well
so thanks for posting that.

it seems the Crystal element is quite popular, with these big time blues players.

No doubt that Dennis is a magician on the harp but I think he either dumps the D harp as he turns to one side on the changeover or he is miming to his pre-recorded playing, either way it is slick.

That's why Dennis wears those chintzy looking paisley pattern jackets....Vegas magician look.... and excellent slight of hand skills! lol

Crystals are best sounding for my taste and I think most folk would like to use powerful crystals all the time but for obvious reasons it can't be! One day all we will have will be the synthetic sounding CM/CR but who knows maybe someone will develop something along those lines that is close to a banging R7 crystal!

Hah, now I watched it on my tablet and it was easy to spot the D harp zipping away like a startled herring when he bends over!

Shame on you, Dennis Grueneling, for making me believe you cupped two harps!

Magicians must hate smartphones!
