The Australian Harmonica Player Network is having an (irregular) get-together on Saturday 12 September in Sydney. It has been advertised on Facebook but not everybody is a member and not everyone looks at posts so I am passing on the information here.

We had about 20 players last time, all different styles and levels from raw beginner to seasoned pro. Most of the guys and gals got up and had a jam. The focus is fun, music and shared love of the harmonica. I have made some great friends here.
There will definitely be beer. B-E-E-R.

I reproduce the FB post below.

Where: The Charlotte Room CLUB ASHFIELD
11 Charlotte Street Ashfield (Sydney)
When: Saturday 12th of September
Time: 1.00pm to 5.00pm
Admission: $10.00
Raffle Tickets: 1 for $1.00 6 for $5.00
Kindly Supported by Don Hopkins and Joe Glover

Don Hopkins Don Hopkins is a vocalist, piano player and songwriter whose music comes from the Blues & Roots (Folk, Country, Gospel, Jazz) traditions. He also plays keyboard, piano accordion, guitar and harmonica. Don performs solo, duo (Dr. Don’s Double Dose) and as part of larger acts at festivals, special events and venues. He teaches blues, roots and popular piano from his studio near Newtown in Sydney, Australia. Don has also been writing songs for as long as he has been playing guitar, piano and singing, from eleven years old.

Joe Glover
Joseph Glover has been playing harmonica since the age of 12, over the years gaining the attention and respect of many of Australia’s finest musicians. Joseph plays locally in Sydney, at blues festivals across the country and on tours with a wide range of Australian blues and roots acts. He is regarded as one of the best young harmonica players in the country.
Joseph plays regularly with the following highly regarded bands:
The Backsliders – Dom Turner (Supro) Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil)
Simon Meli and the Widowbirds (The Voice Australia)
Lachy Doley Group (Powderfinger, The Hands)
His harmonica playing can also be heard on The Voice Australia, where he has been a guest musician with the band every season, playing with both contestants and judges.

Also supporting the meet will be Ray Lechminka (vocals/harmonica) with George Rigatos (guitar) and the Investment Buskers with Eric Betts (vocals/harmonica) and Matthew Roberts (guitar).

Tony Peri from KJ Music will also be appearing and manning the Hohner harmonica stand where harmonicas will be for sale. Tony Peri also does all the warranty work for Hohner harmonicas in Australia for K.J. Music, so if you have any queries on harmonica repairs feel free to ask Tony.

So folks be early and come on down and support your club and get to jam with one of Australia’s best bluesmen, Don Hopkins. Our supportive resident guitarist Matthew Roberts is also available to jam with.

Our club is not only for experienced harmonica players but also newbies, so if you want to get up and have a play don’t feel intimidated. We all started somewhere.

I made a very basic video of the proceedings. We had about 20-25 people. A variety of styles as usual and good participation levels.

The last event lost money but the club covered its costs this time by charging a $10 entry fee and selling raffle tickets. If you just ask people to buy raffle tickets the response is lower apparently. There was a door prize of Hohner XO in A and a Rocket as the raffle prize.
