Any similarity in the licks used to play Piedmont or Delta Blues, and Chicago Blues? Chicago Blues utilizes TB and amplification, but apart from those obvious differences are the licks similar or rather dissimilar?

I would really be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts and opinions on this.

Well, Delta blues generally uses a minor pentatonic scale while Chicago blues generally uses a blues scale. I play some Piedmont blues material but I have no idea if what I'm doing with it is stylistically correct.

My theory is not great, but from what I know the blues scale is the same as a minor pentatonic scale with a flatted fifth added making it six notes instead of five?

I find it hard to believe one note differentiates the two styles?

I'm not real familiar with Piedmont Blues, but it seems to me Delta and Chicago blues share the same licks played in many different ways?

Adam could probably help on this one.

Some of the Delta stuff is only one chord. There is a difference between not hitting any bad notes and playing right notes. To play a lot of the Delta stuff right involves working off of a minor pentatonic scale, not the blues scale. I don't have the best ear but even I can hear the difference. But, yeah, it's a subtle thing. I'm not saying that's the ONLY difference but it is characteristic of the idiom.
