I am trying to put a different element in my Astatic 10-DA. Do I need to keep this box behind the new element or should I take it out?

I am planning on either using the dynamic element from my 533SA or possibly a Shure CR, but we'll see..

Thanks!

It's a transformer. The 10DA is a High Z dynamic. A HiZ CR you don't need a transformer,
a dynamic you will if you want it HiZ.
The 533SA will have a transformer in the mic.

A CR would be an easier project, it might be over your head going with a dynamic unless you find one with the transformer built in like Calrad.

"a dynamic you will if you want [a transformer if] it [is] HiZ" might be misconstrued. Dynamic elements come in all kinds of impedance. CR's and CM's ARE in fact dynamic elements. If the dynamic element NEEDS a transformer it will have one in the mic it came from (like the one in the 533.
