In an earlier post/question, I talked about a concert I had seen with a large number of local harp players here in Phoenix. The portion that I saw-the first five or six players all sang, and I thought I have to learn how to sing. None of (well scratch that, Gypsy, Wild at Harp can sing) them were remarkable singers, but they ALL sounded WAY COOL!
So I thought, you can learn anything on line and I started watching videos and posted on this forum. Then, a couple months ago I started taking skype lessons from a teacher who has many videos on youtube. The experience has been amazing, and I have come a long way in a short time, but my main conclusion I wanted to share on this forum:
I don't think I could do what I do now without a teacher. This is because he can hear what I'm doing and nudge me in the direction I need to go. If I was just doing this on my own, I'd probably be floundering-or going in the wrong direction, because I really don't know how it feels or sounds to really sing. It has taken several months, but I can feel when it happens.
One other thing. Really singing, or singing right is very demanding physically (core musculature) and I am always quite tired afterwards.
So, in short, I'm sure one can learn on their own, but I wouldn't recommend it.
In any case, I always get amazing input from this forum and am very thankful for the people that respond to my questions. Thank you all.
