I know that I need to get a Switchcraft 1/4" Jack, but which one exactly?
I assume I just need to saw it an inch or so shorter and then there will be 2 wires that need to be soldered to the Switchcraft Jack? Anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks! ---------- -LeWin$key

helps to know which wire is 'Hot' and which is earth
make sure that you can fit the jack once the mic is chopped; would be a shame to ruin a vintage mic... I have several rare mics that I installed volume controls and different connectors in.. I never use them (there are plenty of mics that 'work' for harp but only a few that are the best) and their value to collectors has been reduced by my mods.

I've seen chops done to this mic but I generally don't. The barrel is thin wall and it is tapered, making cutting, holding, fitting and securing all very difficult. The jack you're seeing is not the one whose URL you posted. Search for Swithcraft 1/4" thick panel mount jack.
Thanks guys, so is the one that Lester posted the same thing as what Wendell suggested, except with a shorter barrel?
I have a NOS version of this mic that has awesome tone and I also have an untested version coming in the mail that I got for 15 dollars shipped. My plan is to use the 15 dollar one to experiment with so that I don't mess up the nice one. Once this thing is chopped down though it will be almost as small as a Harmonica, so my plan is to keep it in my case as a sweet little ceramic backup mic! ---------- -LeWin$key

You should try one out Harpaholic, these little Sonotone ceramic mics are all over eBay for cheap, and to me they have a nice round tone. It compares to any of the other elements that i've tried (which granted, isn't very many) but at a fraction of the cost.. they are more comfortable to hold than most of the stick mics I have tried too. Slightly small but the shape is nice.
I really think that with this mod it makes the perfect pocket mic. Just throw it in your pocket along with a harp so your prepared for a jam anytime!
