I am staying at the Sheraton on East North Water Street later this week and have Friday night open. I will have a set of harps with me. Anything I should check out?
A bit sparse for harmonica acts this weekend. IMHO, the best bet if you want to try and sit in on Friday night might be Barrelhouse Chuck (piano) at Rosa's Lounge. I don't know what his guest player policy is, but he rocks the place boogie-woogie style.
For pure blues listening pleasure, I would go to B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted and check out Jimmy Johnson w/Rico McFarland. Harp players rarely sit in with Jimmy. Hope that helps
It looks like Nigel Mack is playing, according to the link below. 10 or 12 years ago I sat in with him when he used to play down here in Champaign-Urbana, IL.
