I have used a fender b junior for 10 years now with a shure green bullet mic (1986)
I changed the tubes to low gain some years ago and then put the originals back in as I was going to sell it.
For the last 3 years I have had no feed-back at any volume whereas I did before. I put the amp behind me on a stand, and I go thro' a digital delay pedal.
Sounds great, with no mods, how can that be?

we use a stock blues jr almost every week with out any issues
we also use an amp stand
the tubes made today do not have the same output as nos
never owned a green bullet so can't comment there

Different room? Technique got better? Band not as loud? Different tone settings from what you used to use? Perhaps a capacitor value in the amp has drifted and is shunting some of the high frequencies? Just throwing out some possibilities - it is kind of odd.

It's more likely that your overall technique has improved to the point that all of those tube swaps and mods are now totally useless and most of the time, those things are generally for hiding crappy acoustic tone, which if you want great amplified tone, HAS to happen FIRST.
@Harmonicanick, you've just proven what I've been saying to so many gear head types for freaking years!!!!!

I don't think "those 12AU7 tube swaps just suck". I've recommended them to several players for whom it saved it from certain ampicide.
Why isn't a problem for Nick? Could be changes in the amp, Nick's technique, volume required at the gig, weak microphone, a bunch of reasons. *************************************************** /Greg

One feedback problem occurs if you leave the FAT switch on, and when this is turned on, the jack gets way too hot for any mic regardless of what it is, bullet, stick, ball, you name it because any mic being used for hot is already putting out a much hotter signal to begin with than any guitar does and the guitars closest to that generally tend to be big, hollow body Gibsons with P90 pickups, line an ES5, ES295, older L5's and L7's, and the fully hollow thin body guitars like an ES-330 or Epiphone Casino, and even those don't put out a signal remotely close to how hot any mic being used to amplify a harmonica is. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
