I just read the Clarence Clemons autobiography "Big Man" from the local library. In it there's a photo of his stand on stage. On it is a MB in F but it looks as if all the comb is taped over with just a cut-out for hole 4.
Anyone got any ideas?

another possibility.............
sometimes a sax player will tune slightly sharp joe houston did..... 'much more noticeably sharp" than 442 so could it be he uses it to tune?.... once upon a time before every one and his brother had a tuner it was quite common for the band to tune to a harmonica.

That last one seems more likely - taping it up made it a dedicated tuner.

I had a look at Tony G's "Blues Harp", nothing in there about taping holes in either the "Bending" chapter (pages 31-35) or the "Starting out/getting clean notes" chapter (pages 17-23).

i am pretty sure it was his book, after all how many books were written about harmonica in the 1970's?
do you have the original book or is there a revised edition?
