Walter, I was wandering around Reno yesterday and was in your future pizza neighborhood.
Nate or Adam, may I impose on your goodwill(s) to pass along my email address to Walter?
I hesitate to use this fine vehicle as my personal dating/networking site, but I don't do social media (or anything social for that matter) and need to start some direct dialogue with my future Reno pizza SpontoPie connection.
Cheers, folks. Thanks for the indulgence.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming of musical dissent and name calling.......

Walter - please let me know when you will be opening. I'm making a trip up to Reno in mid-August and if you're open, I'll be sure to stop by.

Buzadero/Joe_L: We are not there yet and the map on the homepage is just a map of Reno. I apologize for that Buzadero. I am off for Reno Saturday for 2 weeks to get things going. Hopefully we find a location and open by late Oct. There won't be any music component to the pizzeria for now. Just real deal NYC/NJ pizza I was raised with. Thanks for the willingness to check us out and your support will make the lives of people with cognitive disabilities more meaningful! Walter

My pleasure. If you need anything like tools, items hauled or picked up at a railyard, debts collected etc when I'm home I'm only ninety minutes north, but Reno is our "big city" for building materials and large grocery runs. It's also where we catch a lot of our entertainment. My wife and I regularly spend weekends in town.
You can bet I'll be a patron and supporter.

Buzadero: Thanks for that kind offer of help. I am leaving my Newark NJ ways back east. I am going to be a man of peace and love and cash only :). Hope to see you in Reno soon. Do you know of an authentic Mexican restaurant in Reno or Sparks? I have been on an 8 year drought with Mexican food here in Ohio and sure miss the corner mom/pop shops we had in CA. I am hoping to find one or more this weekend and eat Mexican food for the 14 days I will be there. Walter

Heya Walter! I was speaking with my slide guitarist, and he said he was in Maine in 1977 in the coast guard. He convinced his buddies to go se Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee and a local club.

He told me that he was expecting an awesome show, and it was even better than he was prepared for. Then he said that Sonny Terry introduced a young white gentleman who was his driver and harmonica student, and was going to have him play a few numbers.

My friend said he blew the hell out of that thing. I said " I think I know exactly who that is!!!" So my question is - and I assume it was - you that was playing that day?

Danny: That was the era I was helping Sonny but only at his NYC area shows. My band was quite popular at the NJ mob run clubs and we were booked 3-5 times a week often so my availability was limited. We made upwards of a grand a night doing crazy pre punk like blues to packed houses and when I went to NYC it cost me to get through the tunnel, park, played to nobody, and I rarely made a dime, so NYC was never attractive to me other than when the old guys were in town.

I never got up on stage with him. Our harp encounters were backstage. I never asked any of the old bluesmen to sit in. I felt they deserved the stage the entire night and only sat in if they asked. Often times there would be lots of guys asking to sit in and many accommodated them after they bought them drinks or got them high on something. I learned early on to stay off the stage if that was the only chance I had because it usually was a trainwreck of crap music.

I do have a live recording with Lightnin Hopkins from Tramps in NYC with me on harp. It was recorded direct off the board and the sound quality is really bad and the backing band was as bad so I can't handle listening. I prefer my memories :-) Walter

here is a good memory at the Lone Star Cafe with Albert Collins and Lonnie Brooks. That was a killer band!

Walter, Miguel's on South Virginia is the best in Reno. I've heard good things about La Fuentes in Sparks, but haven't tried it.
Miguel's is the only place I go.

I live in Sparks, work in Reno. We need a good authentic NY pizza. Since Big Apple pizza left Sparks, nothing comes close.
We have a NY pizza in Sparks, but its terrible.

Nu Yalk Pizza in Reno is a good pie, not enough sauce, but $38 for a large pizza is ridiculous!

Harpaholic: Thanks for the links to the Mexican places! We will soon be neighbors. I tried Nu Yalk and our pies are a different thing. I make them just like I was raised with by my family/pizzerias I worked in NJ. Our pies are not going to be cheap (by NYC/NJ) standards but you will get a top shelf product. I have been making pizzas for over 50 years and feel our prices are not out of line with the high end pizzerias. around the country and right in the middle of the Reno prices. Check the gallery on the pizzeria link below to see our pies. I hope you give us a shot and you will be doing some good work for society as well by keeping people with disabilities employed. Walter

I don't know Gary.
