Came across Honeydripper in a recent thread. Great instrumental for harp:

I love the way Big Walter took stuff and made it work for harp. I think he is way underrated. Had to see where Honeydripper came from and it led me to Joe Liggins:

love Joe's cadillac boogie too:

@didjcripey; with all due respect man, dunno how long you have been listening to BW but one thing he ain't and that's underrated!

The Honeydripper is a big influence;

Just remembered this, the man himself explains it with original saxophonist, Little Willie Jackson who does not say lot! I love stuff like this...

I know it's a BW thread but LW's version must not go unmentioned.

Edit: hey cool, Cadillac Boogie seems to be the inspiration for Cotton's Rocket 88 if I'm hearing that correctly. It's always fun to track back to the source..

that Joe Liggins interview is fascinating.

@ marine1896: been listening to BW for years, he's probably my main influence and favourite old master. Not wanting to start an argument here, but seems he's always overshadowed by Little Walter. I much prefer his tone, timing, arrangements and rhythmic expression. Case in point, LW's version of the song above; for me, I'd be unlikely to give a second listen.

@didjcripey ; well, LW is one thing and BW is another but...both are cut from the same cloth. I will side with you with what you say about BW and I mean it's tone tone tone, it's like he had a set of valves in his lungs!!!

He also had massive hands which helped shape and articulate his sound

The point of my response to you about BW was that since I discovered him for myself back in the 80's every harp player I have encountered has spoke of him in equal terms as LW, in fact it's always been like a sort holy trinity of the 2 Walters and Sonny Boy 2.

I agree about the holy trinity. Out in the colony most people haven't heard of any of them, but if they have, its usually Big Walter and Juke

Many years ago in Cardiff, Wales a very well respected guy with an enviable track record put together a blues/r'n'b band and named it The Honeydrippers. Unknown to him Robert Plant was putting together a blues band that he also wanted to call the Honeydrippers. My friend received a cease and desist demand from Robert Plant's attorney. Considering that both of these gentlemen nicked the name from Joe Liggins and that pinching ideas is a long held blues traditions I thought this particularly ridiculous, especially considering Plant's stature. With further thought I suspected it was possible Plant knew nothing about this David and Goliath situation and that his suit just got a bit overzealous and full of himself.

1847 ; It was Jackie Brenston with Ike's band recorded at Sun Records and sold to Chess Records.
