Hi all, I'm checking back in after almost 2 years away. I got a new job and as I'm in an office it means there's no more harp practice.

But extra cash means I've treated myself to a couple of guitars so I've been playing them. Literally have not picked a harp up in 18 months.
Just found my old Session Steel and ProHarp and wouldn't you know it, overblows so easy! It IS like riding a bike!!

I'm thinking of doing the solo thing guitar/harp (not blues, more folk) and have a couple of questions.

Is anyone using the Hohner Flex rack? I'd like some opinions as I'm struggling to get back into my old Hohner wire one.

I've used the Hohner Flex Rack.
It is by far - hands down - hands free.. lol..
a very advanced design that is comfortable and adjustable..

However, it has a lot of hardware on it and the parts back out very easily. There is a very good chance that if you use it and move it around much, you will begin to lose the washers, screws, etc..

Also, in my opinion, it is too cumbersome.
There is no way to look good playing a rack and a guitar, but to me, the HFR is too bulky contraption looking..

I stripped a Hohner diatonic rack down and put chrome rare earth magnets on it..
Harps swap out on the fly and it is less noticeable...

The reason is with the old wire one that when I go to play it is tipping away from. To position it where I need it to play harp means its far too close for when I sing.
I don't know if I've explained it accurately enough, but it's as if I need the rack gaffa taped to the back of my neck

Ah yes, the wire rack slipping slowly but inexorably away from you ... very amusing for onlookers who are in the know. Putting rubber washers in helps some, you could try that if you don't mind replacing the rubber washers every couple of weeks. The Hohner Flexmeister with patented Grip Of Death technology stays in place real good and it sure holds on to the harp, it should be fine if you don't change keys much.
