I enjoy reading all the Top Lists posted here. Even if you don't agree, it's fun to see what others enjoy. I'm going to start one.
Of all the CDs in my collection, this one ,by far, has been played the most. When I heard Jason's solo (starts about 1:50) I was.....electrified is a good word. To move so cleanly over all 10 holes with bends, nuances, effects, and killer tone. Tab that shit would ya?..lol...
Don't say fast playing can't be emotion filled. Just listen.
A good lesson here: Listen to Jason's "clean speed" when playing. Whatever your embouchure, try to minimalize changes between types of notes played. If you have to totally reshape your mouth to go from a draw bend to a blow or an overblow to a draw, it will slow you down and not be as clean.
The only faster playing I've heard is the sliding speed I call it. Moving up and down doing 4 or 5 hole warbles is one thing, but Jason's speed is actually based on playing all types of notes...blow, draw, bends, overbends....while adding texture to even the shortest notes played.
Wouldn't these lists be boring if we all agreed on the choices. I will word it a little different.
Of the harmonica players which I have been lucky enough to hear, my favorite of all time in the "Blues Rock" genre is Jason Ricci! If someone asked me who is the best blues rock harp player of all time, Jason would be my answer.
How about you? (Only one video to accompany your choice please).
