has anybody put fabulous just tuned plates in a manji or custom? how do you like the sound compared to the compromise manji? i think the plates are the same other than tuning?
i am about to put a few harps together.i might just use DF plates, but i guess i should try at least one set of fabulous plates.
i f anybody has input,i would love to hear it. ---------- www.shakeylee.com

I put Fabulous for diatonic reed plates on a blue moon aluminum comb with promaster cover plates for around $90.00 bucks U.S. One sweet playing harmonica, the reed profiles were very good. The only gaps I adjusted were on hole 3 to better facilitate the bends in 3 draw, (I do this to most harmonicas). I like 7LJI, so a comparison with the Manji tuning is subjective, I will say that chords sound much rounder and fuller. Manji after all is pretty much ET with the 3rds flatted a tad. The biggest difference that I see in justifying the high price for a Suzuki Fabulous must be in the comb, however, I will never be convinced that the Suzuki aluminum comb is $175.00 dollars better the one produced by Tom @ Blue Moon Harmonicas. yes, these will prob go on blue moon combs.i have three coming. brass, acrylic and aluminum .
i have not decided on coverplates yet,but will prob go with vented soul's voice ,or open back harpmaster.
i will prob order three more combs after that, when i decide what i like best.
the price difference between reed plates is minimal.
maybe i'll put one set of fabulous, one set of DF and one set of regular manji in the first three. ---------- www.shakeylee.com

Manji plates tuned to 7li-JI are truly badass. Sweet and sour. It's not that hard to diy and Manji plates are readily available in all keys.

I have to be honest--when I get diatonic harps back for repair, I have to remind myself not to tune them to just. Manjis are compromise, but I like to tune for the difference tone now--as Andrew says, sweet and sour.

i keep going back and forth.they both have their merits.i play a just tuned harp and it sounds great, but for my style compromise is good. decisions, decisions :)

@ Cotton Get Manji plates, they are the right replacement for Olives, although from what I understand, the Olive is ET. When I say "just", I seldom mean 7 limit--usually I mean, I tune the thirds so that chords don't sound out of tune. So I guess I mean compromise . . .
