Aloha's.. I was verry lucky to have picked up a great little "lunch box" Fanon/Masco (3311)amp. A guitar player friend is happy with his gear. Doesn't need it. Sat in his closet for years and years. Cool. Sounds good, too. Does anyone know where I might learn the speaker ohm out? There are no specs (which tell me the ohm out) that I can find. Is there a way to take a reading off the jack? The stock jack will be my next project. It has a modification to 1/4". Which is cool. I willeventually install 4-8-16 ohm jacks. It's pretty confusing to look at the wiring just yet.
My 2nd question, about my effects pedals. Is there any proper sequence when using more than one pedal? Here's what I am using now. Thanks for any feedback. I pretty much don't need anything else. These have allowed me to find a sweet spot at a lower volume. And I still mic through the PA, too. And get a little reverb through the board. Don't really need it though. Thanks! 410 cedar cab. made from a 70 yr old school desk. Nice tone resonance...warm. I closed the back, too.

The best sequence for those pedals are Tone+, Carbon Copy, Sonic Stomp. I have the Tone+ and Sonic Stomp myself and another delay and find that's what works best for me.
I would really take some time to see if you need any of the pedals. The delay is kind of a no brainer, as you either want that sound or now.
However, the Tone+ and SS *might* be overkill depending on the sound you're after. The T+ is going to slightly compress your sound and let you add bass. It will sorta cut highs. It can work with your mic to fight feedback to an extent. It depends on your wants.
The SS will add a sort of presence to your bass and treble that you may or may not like. It can be like taking a blanket off your sound, but may not make a huge amount of difference for you.
The more I play, the more I go with the Lee Oskar approach - clean tone with modulation and time based effects, YMMV. ---------- Mike My Website My Harmonica Effects Blog
I think after you've played with the Tone+ you'll have a hard time not wanting to use it. It definitely help eliminate feedback and that's worth it to me right there. The same with the Sonic Stomp, once you hear it your going to want it. Plus he owns them why not use them?
Because the more gear you use, the more complicated the rig is. IMO, from what I've heard others post, people use too many tone shaping effects and make their rigs needlessly complicated.
What's the point of a nice mic and/or amp if you are then needing to use various preamps and dynamic filters to get a tone you like? It would be easier and maybe even cheaper to just go a direct rig.
Barley,
Modulation = effects like rotary, wah, octave down, etc. Effects that aren't time based. Filters are their own sorta thing too I guess, like phasers. Basically, I meant non-distortion and non-timebased effects.
I keep simplifying my rig to a few delays/reverbs, rotary, and a couple of basic modulations like wah and octave down. I find I enjoy time based effects a lot! ---------- Mike My Website My Harmonica Effects Blog
Well, that is were I've been for years. My Arion SAD-1 delay is my only effect. I have 3 of them! Anything else I have used in addition, only seems to muddy up the tone. Again, keep it simple...Goose
Looks like there is 4,8,16 ohm options , you can install 1/4 jacks, just run a wire from each Pin to the jack , take the bottom of the chassis off and you'll see the wires that go to each ohm option. Don't forget to label the jacks

+1 on modulation and time based effects. The right ones respond well to technique and don't mess with the gain structure and are therefore less feedback prone,

Great response, THANKS! Thanks! You guys are right on the money! thanks. I've only tried the sequence you suggest...rainman. The one in the pix has not had the acid test, yet. I hope it's not drastically different. Your suggestion sounded real good. I got alot of compliments that night. The 5 pin jack is pretty set. I'll have to stare at the wires underneath a little longer. Though, the Masco had different posts. I'm pretty handy. I did the multi out (3) 1/4" jack installation on a Masco MA17. Soldering well takes practice. I hope I'll be able to identify the one in use. It's true...if you stare at anything long enough...it becomes easier to grasp. All great feedback. thanks.
Believe it or not our rigs are quite similar though I do plan to add a couple more pedals to mine. I plan on getting a good reverb pedal as well as the ehx pitchfork organ pedal. (that one just for experimentation- wont always be on) I have thought about getting the Digitech Trio Band Pedal that comes out at the end of April but I haven't made up my mind on that one yet- Here is what my layout will be- Harp tone-delay-reverb-pitchfork-bbe sonic- If I do get the band trio I will add it after the pitchfork- Like I said I haven't made up my mind on that one yet. Best of luck!!
The tone+ is an EQ pedal to improve bass. Whit that amp and a 4x10 you may not need it at all. ---------- Sorry for any misspell, english is not my first language.
thanks. I believe it! yeah, show and tell next..ha! Truth, it was fine without pedals. Though, I am always fearful of "disenfranchising" the front row. I would rather be asked to turn up(which my musician friends always tell me), than asked to turn down. I use a ceramic or a CR mic.
The pedals do add something, but I can live whitout them in my house (on gigs, I cant live whitout my Harpbreak!) ---------- Sorry for any misspell, english is not my first language.
Nice gear guys, mint Princeton! wow! What are your settings? and what mic do you prefer? I really like the Sonic Stomp. The test run went smooth, though not as good as the original sequence. Which rainman had suggested. I'm gonna change it back.(our 1st idea is usually the best). I'm bout ready to dig in on the speaker "out" thang, next.(as he stares at the underbelly) Still haven't found any schematics on what speaker out the Fanon/Masco 3311 model is set up for. 4 or 8ohm? It won't matter soon... got an easy one for ya... Which is it, 4 or 8? happy trails! ----------

Here's a photo of a mic I really like that I just finished. It's a Calrad DM-11 I modified with a Shure CR element that fits perfectly inside. I really like the OptiComp Compressor and it works best at the beginning of the chain like shown.
